I Hate Christmas

I Hate Christmas

Neighborhoods decorated with bright lights, snowmen, and reindeer which can trigger feelings of joy, pleasant memories, and bring about the spirit of Christmas. For others, those same items could bring feelings of sadness, depression, or thoughts of loved ones that have passed on.

About ten minutes before I left the office today, I heard a loud crash. I ran outside and saw a car had crashed into a truck of an elderly couple. The vehicle was hit hard enough that the airbags deployed. It didn't appear anyone was severely injured. Being in a car accident sucks any time of the year but right before the holidays make it especially sad. I wondered how this would affect both parties holidays.

Being an Active Listener Isn’t Always Good!

Being an Active Listener Isn’t Always Good!

You Don’t Have to Listen
In general, being an active listener is an excellent quality to possess, but there are times when listening can be harmful to your mental and physical health. Yes, you heard me correctly, listening could be bad for your health. As young children through our adulthood, people are regularly telling us things. Some of the things that are said are good while other things are not so good. Therefore, it is crucial for you to decide when it is or is not important to listen.
When is it bad to listen?

I want to step back a second to provide you with some context of why I am bringing up this topic. Most hypnotists learn about direct suggestion during their certification training. The hypnotist uses direct implications,

Is Fear Holding You Back?

Is Fear Holding You Back?

It is normal to have some fears in your life, but some fears can be debilitating. There are two main types of fears. There are the ones that keep you safe and the ones that prevent you from leading a healthy life or prevent you from obtaining something you want in life. For example, if you are walking across a shaky footbridge which connects two mountains and if you feel off the bridge you would die or be severely injured, being a little scared while crossing it would be expected.  Now, if you have a panic attack when you see a puppy, who’s with its owner, on the sidewalk during your morning commute, that might be an irrational fear. Some people who have fears know where the fear came from, but other may not know the origin. Some fears may not affect your daily life, but do you have to live with them? If you are deathly afraid of spiders, mice, public speaking or other common fears, what would happen if you didn’t have these

Change Your Plate Change Your Weight

Change Your Plate Change Your Weight

The holidays are here, and many times people see their waist bands expand a little more than they hoped. After the holidays are over, millions of people set their New Year’s resolutions to lose weight and get in shape.

The mistake many people make is they try to go from 0 -100 with their goals. For example, from rarely exercising or eating healthy to a resolution to running a marathon or becoming a vegan overnight. But it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. You don’t have to give up all the things you love to lose weight and feel great.

The trick is to set goals and make lifestyle changes you will hold on to versus diets that come and go. Before you read further, I should tell you that I am not an all or nothing person when it comes to eating healthy and exercising. I believe little steps forward are progress. Life is a marathon not a sprint.

Is There Life After Death?

Is There Life After Death?

Is this a question you have asked yourself? Once we die do we lay in the box we are buried in or stay in the urn where we are stored? Would you live your life differently if you had the answer to this question?

Grandpa, is there a body here?

Death is something I have had to deal with differently than most people I know. You see, my grandfather (grandpa) was a Funeral Director. Yep, you read right! He drove a hearse, picked up dead bodies,  embalmed, dressed, and put makeup on them.

What Do You Value?

What Do You Value?

When you are contemplating a change or decision in your life, you may find yourself stuck and uncertain which direction to go. You may be uncertain which path is right for you or is in line with your highest good. Whether it is dealing with your job, relationship, money, health, or spirituality, we all have values whether you realize it or not.

Once we get a clear understanding of our values in the area we are trying to make the decision, the decision becomes much clearer and easier to make.

Recently, I was trying to decide whether to continue a new relationship with an individual who lived outside of my state. We each shared similar relationship values which seemed to match up well. However, as we continued to get to know each other, from a distance, I started to feel anxious and my sleep began to be disturbed. These two signals and a few other items were a clear indicator that something was off about this relationship. I wasn't sure what it was, but I knew this relationship was causing some internal conflict.

You Should Really Work On That

You Should Really Work On That

When a child comes home with their report card and there are several A’s and one grade that is C or below, which grade do we generally focus on? That’s right the lower grade. My niece is a smart young girl but a few years ago she began to get lower grades in reading versus classes like math and science. Her teachers emphasized what she wasn’t doing well in which negatively affected her other grades and self-esteem.

If a guy walks over to you and there is a small stain on his shirt, it is unlikely you will say, oh look how clean most of his shirt is.

What I have learned from my dog! The Magic of Being a Pet Owner

What I have learned from my dog! The Magic of Being a Pet Owner

Living in California, I have seen a whole new level of dog ownership. There are dogs everywhere you go, the grocery store, movie theaters, restaurants, and hardware stores. There are even people who walk their dogs in strollers! What is it about dogs that people just can’t live without?

I have loved dogs since I was a very young child. I had dogs throughout my childhood, and sometimes more than one dog at a time. For years as an adult, I wanted to get another dog but I wasn’t ready for the responsibility or to give up some of my extracurricular activities.

Two years ago, after some research, I decided it was time to bring a dog into my life. I reached out to some dog rescues and received a note about a dog named Deuce.
